Chris Cichocki grew up in Detroit, Michigan, dreaming about playing for the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings. Remarkably, after three years of collegiate hockey with the Michigan Tech Huskies, he was actually signed by the Red Wings in June 1985. However, Cichocki’s dream was short-lived. Despite a solid year with Detroit in 1985–1986 (21 points in 59 games), he was sent to the Adirondack club of the AHL, and subsequently was traded to the New Jersey Devils. By 1989, Cichocki was a Binghamton Whaler, and when that team was replaced at the Arena by the Binghamton Rangers, he played for them from 1990 to 1993. Despite 65 points scored in 1990–1991, and more than 50 in each of the next two years, Cichocki was never again invited to rejoin the NHL.
